East Silent Lake is best known for its walleye. However, there are many species of fish for guests to catch. Most recently we've been impressed by some large northern pike. Check out these great photos!

Lori displays a nice 6.5 lb. northern pike!

Darel had an interesting week at East Silent Resort. Check out this 15 lb. monster.
The giant mouth on this fish was most impressive.

Did You Know???
Did you know the largest northern pike caught in Minnesota weighed 45 pound, 12 ounces. It was taken on Basswood Lake in 1929. The world record pike (55 pounds, 1 ounce) was caught from a lake in Germany. Northern pike look a lot like muskies. But pike have light markings on a dark body background. Muskies usually have dark markings on a light body background.

Summer Fish Stories

What a summer for fish stories!

As the season slowly comes to a close, we wanted to share some of our favorite "fish stories" from 2007. Although East Silent Lake is known for its large walleye numbers, our guests have brought in a variety of fish this summer.

N is for Neil and Northern. What a great catch!

Sometimes the size of the fish doesn't matter though. Julia and Olivia are proud of their catch. We just hope Jason and Phil didn't try to clean them :) !

Another large bass caught by Joshua Tigges. In addition to being caught off the dock, this fine fish was brought in by a "Barbie Pole."

Old Pros! The Anderson girls have been coming to East Silent Resort since they were born. And with Grandpa Frank's help...they always manage to bring in some whoppers!

Professional Wakeboarder???

Alec might not be a professional wakeboarder yet...but watch out! Check out these great photos of a recent guest (Alec) tearing up East Silent Lake. Not only did Alec get up on his first try, he rode the wake like a pro. We look foward to seeing the steady-footed Alec and his family in 2008!

That Isn't a Boat!

WHAT A SURPRISE!!!

East Silent Resort guests were surprised by an odd shaped boat recently!!! After closer inspection, however, it wasn't really a boat. Rather, Craig (East Silent Resort guest) and Dale (local piolt) landed a float plane on East Silent Lake. The crowd on the beach grew larger and larger as the plane slowly approached East Silent Resort. After a short layover, the plane was back in the sky. BUT...we'll always remember the morning our beach was transformed into an airport! :)

What a TURTLE!!!

While Perham, MN has the largest Turtle Races in Minnesota...East Silent Resort just may have the largest turtle. Check out the enormous turtle hauled in by the Olmstead family. During their many summer vacations at East Silent Resort, catching (and releasing) turtles has become a yearly tradition. This big fella (estimated 35+ lbs) may be their largest ever. Thanks for sharing your special tradition with the rest of us!!!

While East Silent Lake is known for its walleye...it also has large numbers of bass and pan fish. Kevin and the Rozeboom clan show off a nice 3.5 lb. large mouth bass caught from the dock. Kevin released the nice size fish shortly after the photo so you'll have a chance at him too!

Baseball Great Visits East Silent Resort

SURPRISE GUEST
East Silent Resort had a very special guest recently...former major league baseball star Jack Dittmer (pictured below wearing hat). Jack and his wife Darlene, along with good friends (the Matt's) enjoyed touring Otter Tail County.

IOWA HAWKEYE
Jack played basketball, football, and baseball for the University of Iowa in the 1940's. In fact, he was the last athlete to earn 9 letters!!! He was chosen Iowa's Most Valuable Player in 1949, and was in the school record book for a long time as the career leader in touchdown catches with 13. As a senior, he set a Big Ten Conference season record for yards gained in pass receiving with 333.

BASEBALL GREAT

Jack's first year in the majors was with the then-Boston Braves in 1952. In 93 games, he hit .193. But improvement came quickly.His best season was 1953, after the franchise was moved to Milwaukee. It was his first season as a regular, and he hit .266, belted nine home runs and 22 doubles and had 63 runs-batted-in.

Charlie the Chipmunk!

It seems our friendly atmosphere here at East Silent Resort is starting to rub off on the animals. Over the past two weeks, Missy and Charlie the Chimpmunk have become close friends. As you can see (below), Charlie enjoys eating peanuts and relaxing on Missy's lap. According to Missy, the only downside to having a furry friend is Charlie's early morning "chirping" outside her cabin window. Charlie and the other chipmunks hope you'll visit them too. Don't forget the peanuts!

We had a surprise visitor during the weekend…a MOOSE! After roaming around the resort for a few hours, he finally set up camp by the lodge. So far he’s been a good guest. The only problem is he doesn’t have a name. SO…we need your help. Please send us your favorite names for our new East Silent Resort friend.

Perfect Morning at East Silent Resort

Good Morning!

It is a gorgeous morning here at East Silent Resort. The lake is perfectly still. Only the jumping of fish and diving of loons break the waters glass like surface. (In fact, can you see the loon behind the swim raft?) But the resort isn't quiet! Chirping birds and the distant gobble of wild turkeys are today's sound track.
